D05 · FINAL BARRIER · POLISHING
Intelligent Polishing Operations
Protect final product or water quality by detecting trace breakthrough and optimising the last separation step.
NOVYRON is software-first and vendor-neutral: this is configurable software, integration and lifecycle service, not process equipment. The existing PLC or DCS keeps interlocks and regulatory control, and every recommendation stays inside a site-approved operating envelope under human oversight.
THE INDUSTRIAL PROBLEM
Polishing sits next to the quality release point and handles very low contaminant levels. A small change in resin, carbon, membrane or adsorbent condition is hard to separate from analyser noise until a limit is close. Replacing media conservatively protects quality but wastes media and creates downtime.
THE NOVYRON LAYER
NOVYRON monitors the final barrier as a stateful quality asset. It fuses upstream load, pressure and flow behaviour, online analysers and laboratory results to forecast breakthrough, detect abnormal leakage, and plan duty/standby switching or media replacement with a confidence margin that can be audited afterwards.
TYPICAL DATA INPUTS
- Inlet and outlet conductivity, resistivity, TOC, turbidity or target analyte
- Flow, cumulative treated volume and pressure drop
- Temperature and upstream process state
- Media or resin age, lot and service history
- Laboratory release and grab-sample results
- Valve position, vessel sequence and sanitisation events
MODELS AND DECISIONS
- Trace-breakthrough probability model
- Sensor fusion with analyser-drift detection
- Remaining useful capacity estimate
- Duty and standby sequencing optimiser
- Change-point detection for seal, valve or channeling failure
- Uncertainty-aware support for quality release
What each deployment reads, which models it runs, how it connects and how much authority it is given are designed for the site. None of it is pre-installed hardware, and none of it is a guaranteed autonomous function.
CORE CAPABILITIES
- QUALITY-MARGIN TREND, NOT PASS/FAIL
- MEDIA GENEALOGY & CUMULATIVE LOADING
- CROSS-ANALYSER PLAUSIBILITY CHECK
- EARLY-WARNING LEAD TIME
- SWITCH & REPLACEMENT PLANNING
- EVIDENCE TIMELINE FOR DEVIATION REVIEW
HOW IT WORKS
- S1Define the critical quality attribute and the release rule that governs it
- S2Map upstream load and the state of each polishing asset
- S3Reconcile online measurement with laboratory results, delay included
- S4Learn normal leakage and capacity-consumption patterns per media lot
- S5Validate alarms against known changes and recorded service events
- S6Deploy bounded sequencing and maintenance recommendations
INTEGRATION POINTS
- Polishing skid PLC and historian
- LIMS and the quality-management system
- Online TOC, conductivity, turbidity or specific analysers
- CMMS and spare-media inventory
- Batch release or utility distribution systems
NOVYRON connects read-only and runs in shadow mode first. Any write-back is designed, tested and approved separately. Interfaces are chosen to fit the architecture already on site rather than forcing a new hardware stack.
MEASUREMENT EXAMPLES

- False alarm and missed-event rates
- Quality hold duration
- Media, water and downtime cost per treated volume

WHAT STAYS OUTSIDE
The software supports validated release testing, regulatory sampling and established barrier integrity checks — it does not replace any of them. Conservative fallback thresholds stay available and stay in force whenever the model is uncertain.
SAFETY, QUALITY AND GOVERNANCE
- The deployment architecture can be designed to segregate customer data by tenant and deployment boundary, subject to the hosting, access-control and contractual terms agreed with you. Edge, on-premises, private-cloud and managed-cloud patterns are all evaluated against your constraints.
- Role-based access, encryption in transit and at rest, audit logging, model and version traceability and a secure update process are defined during solution design.
- Data provenance, retention and permitted model-training use are documented contractually. Customer data is not silently pooled into general models.
- Predictions carry quality flags and uncertainty where that is technically meaningful. Drift and out-of-distribution conditions trigger review rather than false precision.
Bring us the process boundary
Share the process, the signals you already collect, the control architecture, the constraints and the outcome you need. An engineer turns that into a scoped data assessment, a shadow pilot and a deployment plan.
