AI-Guided Demineralisation Lines

Forecast breakthrough, improve regeneration timing and maintain water quality across ion-exchange and hybrid treatment trains.

NOVYRON is software-first and vendor-neutral: this is configurable software, integration and lifecycle service, not process equipment. The existing PLC or DCS keeps interlocks and regulatory control, and every recommendation stays inside a site-approved operating envelope under human oversight.

THE INDUSTRIAL PROBLEM

Demineralisation lines face variable ionic load, resin ageing, channeling, regenerant variability and analyser drift. Regeneration on fixed throughput or a fixed clock either spends acid, caustic and rinse water that was not needed, or lets conductivity and silica break through.

THE NOVYRON LAYER

NOVYRON models every cation, anion and mixed bed as a stateful asset. It estimates remaining exchange capacity from influent load and operating history, forecasts breakthrough risk, and supports regeneration, vessel sequencing and quality-release decisions. Reverse osmosis, degasification and electrodeionisation stages join the same line model.

TYPICAL DATA INPUTS

  • Flow, cumulative throughput and service time
  • Inlet, interstage and outlet conductivity and resistivity
  • Silica, sodium, pH, alkalinity or hardness where available
  • Pressure drop and vessel differential pressure
  • Acid and caustic concentration, flow and contact time
  • Rinse volume, regeneration steps and resin service age

MODELS AND DECISIONS

  • Bed-capacity state estimation from ionic-load history
  • Breakthrough forecasting for conductivity, silica or sodium
  • Anomaly detection for channeling, valve leakage and analyser drift
  • Regeneration-quality scoring and chemical-dose comparison
  • Train-sequencing optimisation under demand and storage constraints
  • Hybrid mechanistic and learned model for RO-plus-ion-exchange systems

What each deployment reads, which models it runs, how it connects and how much authority it is given are designed for the site. None of it is pre-installed hardware, and none of it is a guaranteed autonomous function.

CORE CAPABILITIES

  • REMAINING CAPACITY WITH UNCERTAINTY
  • REGENERATION TRACE & CHEMICAL BALANCE
  • LEAD / LAG VESSEL COMPARISON
  • QUALITY-RELEASE EVIDENCE PACK
  • ANALYSER CROSS-CHECK & SENSOR HEALTH
  • PRODUCTION & MAINTENANCE PLANNER

HOW IT WORKS

  1. S1Define line topology, resin types and the quality boundary for each stage
  2. S2Reconcile flow and analytical data into ionic-load proxies
  3. S3Model service runs and regeneration state transitions per vessel
  4. S4Train breakthrough and regeneration-effectiveness models on that history
  5. S5Validate against laboratory and online analyser results across seasons
  6. S6Deploy advisory timing, sequencing and exception workflows

INTEGRATION POINTS

  • Water-treatment PLC/SCADA and historian
  • Online conductivity, silica, sodium and pH analysers
  • LIMS and boiler or steam chemistry systems
  • Chemical dosing and inventory systems
  • CMMS and utility demand planning

NOVYRON connects read-only and runs in shadow mode first. Any write-back is designed, tested and approved separately. Interfaces are chosen to fit the architecture already on site rather than forcing a new hardware stack.

MEASUREMENT EXAMPLES

These are measures for a baseline and target-setting workshop, agreed from your own data. None of them is a statement of a result NOVYRON has achieved.

  • Treated volume per regeneration
  • Regenerant and rinse water per cubic metre
  • Breakthrough prediction error and warning lead time
  • Off-specification water events
  • Pressure-drop trend and resin utilisation
  • Demineralised-water availability

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

  • BOILER MAKE-UP WATER

WHAT STAYS OUTSIDE

Recommendations use approved resin-vendor operating limits, chemical handling procedures and release criteria. Quality-critical water stays subject to validated analyser and laboratory acceptance, and chemical safety and equipment protection stay in the PLC or DCS.

SAFETY, QUALITY AND GOVERNANCE

  • The deployment architecture can be designed to segregate customer data by tenant and deployment boundary, subject to the hosting, access-control and contractual terms agreed with you. Edge, on-premises, private-cloud and managed-cloud patterns are all evaluated against your constraints.
  • Role-based access, encryption in transit and at rest, audit logging, model and version traceability and a secure update process are defined during solution design.
  • Data provenance, retention and permitted model-training use are documented contractually. Customer data is not silently pooled into general models.
  • Predictions carry quality flags and uncertainty where that is technically meaningful. Drift and out-of-distribution conditions trigger review rather than false precision.

Bring us the process boundary

Share the process, the signals you already collect, the control architecture, the constraints and the outcome you need. An engineer turns that into a scoped data assessment, a shadow pilot and a deployment plan.
